Chestny Znak Product Marking for Russia & the EAEU

What is mandatory marking in Russia and the EAEU?

To fight counterfeiting, Russia introduced the Chestny Znak (Honest Sign) traceability system. Each item in a regulated category must carry a unique DataMatrix code containing a cryptographically protected identifier (the “crypto code”). Belarus runs an equivalent Electronic Mark system, and requirements are being harmonised across the EAEU (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan).

If you export goods in a regulated category, every unit must be correctly coded before it is sold — otherwise it cannot legally clear or move through the market.

Regulated categories already include cosmetics and perfume, beverages, confectionery, snacks, light industry and many more — and the list keeps growing.

Our full-cycle marking service

  1. Consultation — we confirm whether your products fall under marking, and which codes apply.
  2. Label design — we prepare print-ready layouts that satisfy every technical rule of the system.
  3. Code application — we obtain and physically apply DataMatrix codes, manual or automated, to suit your product.
  4. Verification — every code is scanned and checked so it reads correctly down the chain.
  5. Aggregation — unit codes are linked to boxes and pallets for clean logistics.
  6. Warehousing & dispatch — responsible storage and shipment from our bonded warehouse.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Chestny Znak marking to sell my products in Russia?
If your product is in a regulated category — cosmetics, beverages, confectionery, light industry and a growing list — then yes: every unit must carry a valid DataMatrix code before it can be sold. We confirm whether your goods are covered and handle the marking for you.
What is Chestny Znak (Honest Sign)?
It is Russia’s national product traceability system. Each item gets a unique, cryptographically protected DataMatrix code tracked from production to sale. Belarus runs an equivalent system (Electronic Mark) and the rules are being harmonised across the EAEU.
How long does it take to start marking?
Typically 1–2 weeks from first contact to the first marked batch, depending on the category and volumes. There is no minimum order.
Can you also bring the goods and handle logistics?
Yes. With 20+ years in logistics and foreign trade we can arrange transport, deliver to our bonded warehouse 50 km from the EU border, then mark, store and dispatch onward to Russia and the EAEU.
